Spin. Turn. Twist. Whirl. Rotate like the sun from east to west. Sunset drapes the earth with peach blackberry velvet. Sunrise valets the day with plum custard. God traces the earth as it navigates His universe in fluorescent beauty.
Turn around and see God. Turn around and see the light. Turn around and discover promises unfolding before your eyes.
“God saw their actions—that they had turned from their evil ways—so God relented from the disaster He had threatened them with. And He did not do it.” Jonah 3:10
God loves to witness a turn. Right turns. Left turns. His turns. Your turns. In every turn, His guidance propels us forward with adventure, love, and dignity.
“A person’s heart plans his way, but the LORD determines his steps.” Proverbs 16:9
Jesus loves the steps You have taken with Him. He led me to love. He led you to love.
Step in sync with His voice. About-face at His command. March for His Kingdom. His face is shining on you still.
God has eyes on you everywhere you are and you will never be out of His sight.
“No creature is hidden from Him, but all things are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give an account.” Hebrews 4:13
Jesus died because He understands you fully and wants you wholly to be with Him in Heaven. Serendipitous glory cloaks His holy people because His love sets our hearts to flight in Heaven’s wonder.
In John 21, after Jesus came to life and rose from the tomb, He gave Peter a chance to make an about-face. To retract his former denial. To rescind the former rejection. Jesus says, “Peter do you love Me?” three times. Peter says, “You know I love You!” three times in response. So, Jesus said “Feed my lambs.”
“He asked him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved that he asked him the third time, “Do you love Me?” He said, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” “Feed my sheep,” Jesus said.” John 21:17
Turn around and do what Jesus made you to do.
Jesus restores every child of His Kingdom to live up to their potential and calling.
Peter obeys and turns around from His rejection of knowing Christ to affirming His love for Jesus unto death. He would lead the disciples in building the church and calling others unto salvation. In this moment of turning around, something happens to Peter. He sees someone else who was already following Jesus whole-heartedly. It was John, the one who did not reject Jesus but follow Him all the way to the foot of the cross.
“So Peter turned around and saw the disciple Jesus loved following them, the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and asked, “Lord, who is the one that’s going to betray you?” 21 When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about him?”22 “If I want him to remain until I come,” Jesus answered, “what is that to you? As for you, follow me.” John 21:20-22
Peter had a moment of hesitation when turning around because he saw someone else beside him when he did. He saw John. And it distracts him. So, Jesus reminds him to look at Him alone.
Your love for Jesus is yours regardless of who else is in the room.
Jesus delights to treat us like the only one.
Jesus delights to show mercy.
Jesus delights to love each one of us specifically.
When Jonah saw that Ninevah had turned from their wicked ways and did an about-face, God shows them mercy. But Jonah was angry. Jonah wanted the people of Ninevah to suffer for their sins. But God chose to forgive because they repented. God’s mercy triumphs.
God delights to show mercy to us. He loves your decision to abandon sinful ways and let Him be Lord.
“For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.” James 2:13
God is not ruthless. He loves to forgive and heal us so He can love us and be loved by us. God is a lover. Love relationships are His purpose. This is why Jesus died… so that we can have eternal life and love with our redeemer in Heaven forever.
