She Says Goodbye

you never thought
it’d come to this
you have to say
goodbye
the hand you’ve held
through lows
and highs
for years of life
inclines
to rise
and never come back

how do you let go
when you know
you have to let go

it’s never the right time
she says
I’m not ready
she says

her heart lies in waiting
for the moment Heaven’s taking
him away
into the sun
the final goodbye
has begun

how do you let go
when you know
you have to let go

she still remembers the wedding

her fingers still grasp
the silky diamond
chiffon ballgown
decked with crystals
laced with sequins
lined in sequence
perfectly
just like a dream
but now the feeling
lost its gleam
it’s not a love story anymore
it’s a final chapter
in a book
her hands are closing
as she wakes up
to another world
without him

Heaven is calling

her eyes were radiant
his heart was full
the day they made
their vows by pools
of waters
scintillating

is it devastating
when hearts go
different ways

is it petrifying
when life drifts
off and away

we did everything we could
she thinks
or did we
I gave you everything
she says
but could we
make it anymore
when Heaven
wants you
evermore

the time has come
the time has passed
the day arrived
the day romanced
to see
it’s healing in the works
to breathe
its life into the dirt
her eyes
cry out with Heaven and earth

she says goodbye

may Heaven hold you dear tonight
