God wants to hear your voice. He needs to hear your thoughts. Your pleas. Your needs. Your requests. Relationship with God grows from mutual love and communication. This communication increases and amplifies over time like a blossoming garden of layered beauty. Jesus already knows everything about you. But He wants you to share everything with Him to increase the connection between you and Him.
Prayer connects your heart to the Lord.
Prayer induces God’s heart to move on your behalf.
“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” John 15:7
Jesus promised constant responses and continual provision to those who abide in Him. “Abide” means “meno” in the Greek translation. It means to remain, stay, dwell, reside. Thus, one remains in the same position for a extended period of time, permanently. To abide in Jesus means that your heart remains in the position of loving Jesus for an everlasting period of time.
Life in all its joyful abundance results from abiding in Jesus forever.
I want my heart loyal to Jesus forever.
Jesus’ words remain in us when we stay devoted to Jesus. Then we can pray to Him freely and know our hearts are heard by the Lord. We can ask anything we need and know He has the solution. “It will be done for you,” Jesus says. God will do what He promised us.
Jesus constantly reminded the disciples to pray because it strengthened the heart. Our hearts receive nourishment when we connect with God through communication. His communication is life-giving, disintegrating confusion and generating clarity for unknowns and wisdom for obstacles in our path. Pray to the Lord who loves you and know He hears you. His passion for you provokes His own heart to hear you. His love for you ignites His attention to listen to every word you say.
God listens to every word you pray.
“And He told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.” Luke 18:1
Your keep your heart when you pray unceasingly.
You protect your heart when you pray without hesitation.
You strengthen your heart when you pray transparently.
God has what you need… let Him know what you need, so you can meet with God in the middle of your real thoughts and questions.
Jesus tells them “always to pray.” Jesus urges His people to pray and not give up on prayer. This fellowship with God is vital. Jesus Himself spent time praying to the Father, the person of the Trinity residing in Heaven as He resides on earth. Spiritual connection necessitates spiritual communication with our God. Jesus led by example in demonstrating to the disciples how He withdrew to spend time with God in prayer.
Luke records how Jesus often took time for prayer.
“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” Luke 5:16
Sometimes you need to get alone with God. Eliminate distractions and hear from Him, no one else. He alone sees it all and knows the details of what you are facing. God is not a statue nor a lifeless object that we believe in. God is a real being we interact with. Talking to Jesus is the only way your relationship grows. He wants your spirit to tell Him everything in prayer.
Paul spoke to Timothy about prayer, exhorting him to encourage the men to pray who were leading the church. Quarreling is not the answer to problems. Anger and bickering is not the way to resolve conflict. He says… I want them to pray!
“I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling.” 1 Timothy 2:8
Prayer is a non-negotiable of the faith.
You see God’s presence and power in your life when you pray. You can see prayers answered because you have a prayer that you can track it to as a result. Without prayer, blessings have potential to be accredited to happenstance or coincidence. But when you pray specifically, and then God answers… you see how that prayer led to your answer directly.
God wants you to pray so that He can answer you and show you His power.
