Love inspires. It never expires. It adorns the clouds with fires of passionate light and eternal delight birthed from the Heavens. To every generation, love translates a message of purest hope for humanity. Jesus’ love is our hope. And His love is the real definition of what we desire for as people made to be loved by God.
“For the Lord is good; His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations.” Psalm 100:5
Love touches every heart and every soul. For the young, the old, the adolescent, the child, the parent, and the grandparent, love speaks the same language.
Every generation looks for love, hopes for love, delights in love, and embraces love as the God of Heaven made His people to need this necessity of the soul.
Love is a necessity. A cruciality. A treasure of God’s heart given to us as a gift, meeting the deepest needs of the human heart. We all desire love and we all receive the promise of loyal love from the God who created us to be loved by Him.
This need for love comes from God’s design of humanity.
Jesus created everyone to be loved by Him.
In Genesis 1:26, God says “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness.” Love is one of the most fundamental attributes of God’s character.
God says… love like Me. Then you will know what it is like to love unconditionally.
“And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you.” Genesis 17:7
God speaks a promise of love over every generation who would receive Him.
God is a generational God. What He bestows on one generation, He passes down to the next through the ones who love Him and seek His face. He exhorts His people to love deeply, for this is the way of His own heart.
“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8
You prevent your heart from sinning when you love. Your heart maintains holiness when you love because it “covers a multitude of sins,” Peter says. Love is the secret to vibrant relationship with Jesus and with others. Every generation understands love and seeks to be shown love. God expects us to love one another because He gives us the richness of His own love to flood our hearts. You have what it takes to love with Jesus’ love, and this love of God is a marker of His Kingdom.
Jesus taught in Luke 6 about the purity of love. His message is simple: love everybody.
“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them… But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High.” Luke 6:32,35-36
Jesus teaches us that loving everyone is the standard of the Kingdom of God.
Love must reach every generation.
How can we love the one difficult to love? How can we love ourselves like Jesus loves us?
1 Corinthians 13 gives us insight into this mystery of love and the qualities of holy spirit love as one seeks to live out its perfect essence.
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away…
13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-10,13
When you love like Jesus, you start to love without boundaries. Impart the Kingdom of God everywhere you go with the aroma of Christ to save a world looking for love, so they may find it in the Savior who gave His life for them to have this love.
“And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Colossians 3:14
Unity come from the presence of love in every person. We need love in order to be everything God has called us to be. Thankfully, this culmination of perfect love will come to fruition when we are in Heaven and perfect love is present for all time in every heart. As we wait now on Jesus to come back, we seek to live with love in all we do.
“Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
Then you will win favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man.” Proverbs 3:3-4
Love gives you favor with people.
Love builds relationships with people.
Love overlooks offenses.
Love forgives quickly.
Love seeks to give compassion.
Love does not oppress.
Love sacrifices its time for the others.
Love delights in every heart and soul as beloved people made in the image of God.
“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” Ephesians 4:2
It requires love to maintain good friendships because love empowers you to be proactive to reach out to others, to forgive others, to forgive yourself, to assume the best and to live with a gracious spirit towards people and situations around you. Without love, we cannot have harmony with one another. Love is needed at all times for us to be able to care for another with genuine love and affection.
We need love to see Heaven come to earth: Love from God’s own heart where we learn from His definition of love and yield to that definition of love with one another. We need love to be parents of children who need nurturing and to be children of a holy God who longs for our love. Every generation beckons the human soul towards love: receiving love and giving love. You were made for love.
