Jesus Stunts

See the light shining in the distance. Radiations are coming closer. Nearer. Stronger. Second by second, the water ripples with the advance of a mysterious presence. Neon lights cast glows into the moonlight’s reflections on the sea. Waves sway faster. The boat rocks tenser. What could it be, they wonder?

“Then, when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat; and they were frightened.” John 6:19

They saw Him.

Evidence permeated their eyes. There He was. Jesus. The legend. Walking on the water. Defying the impossible. Doing the insurmountable. No one could achieve this feat for Him. Only Jesus could do it.

Waves rage and whirl at the entrance of Jesus’ feet marking its surface. His presence provokes the winds.

“The sea began to be stirred up because a strong wind was blowing.” John 6:18

Creation must bow to the power of God touching down. When Jesus arrives at the disciples’ boat, He speaks before jumping in.

“But He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” John 6:20

God’s presence removes all fear.

God wants to speak to you before you choose to let Him in.

“So they were willing to receive Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.” John 6:21

The disciples let Jesus into the boat because they knew Jesus was God. They allowed Him to be God, even if it put them in dangerous situations at times because they knew Jesus would always show up to soothe the anarchy.

Immediately, they arrive at land because Jesus presence carries you where you need to go.

You can get to your destination much quicker with Jesus in your boat.

Let Him in.

“But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12

Do you want to receive Jesus into your life?

You need Him in your life.

There is no life without Him, and with Him, eternal life and meaning permeate your existence.

Minutes prior, the disciples had begun their trek across the sea since Jesus had gone away to be alone and pray. The crowds were closing in on Him and He needed to withdraw.

“So Jesus, perceiving that they were intending to come and take Him by force to make Him king, withdrew again to the mountain by Himself alone.” John 6:15

Jesus always sees through people’s hearts. He perceives the real truth. He knows the people wanted to crown Him King and exalt Him as their leader, but Jesus had a different mission in mind: to die for love and give eternal life. Thus, He could not be their King even though He wanted to and loved their affection. He knew that the people’s immortality would not be sealed unless He died for them. So, He could not take a place of exaltation and royalty on earth. He had to take the place of death and rejection.

Jesus’ ways prove He always has a higher vision in mind for us.

Jesus needed to be alone when He withdrew from the crowds, and He sends the disciples ahead of Him. We see the humanity of Jesus needing alone time in this moment to regain calm and decide what to do next. He knew his disciples would be okay without Him for a few hours. When he needed to find them, He would, and He does. He did not take long for Jesus to catch up to them, because He commands the elements and creation. He could walk right over the storm and travel on the water by foot.

Jesus is a stunt man. He walks on water. Flies in the sky. Gives messages sent from Heaven. Heals impossible ailments. Opens blind eyes. Works implausible miracles. Jesus can do anything in the universe He created. Nothing limits Him from reign and glory.

“The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.” Exodus 14:14

Watch God fight for you all by Himself. Then when the battle is over, we sing His praises.

“Who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:4

God desires everyone to belong to Him. God wants to revive everyone. God wants to restore everyone. God wants everyone to trust Him. God wants everyone to experience the benefits of His power. However, not all people want God to be their God. Jesus would send out His message of healing and redemption as He walked the earth for three years ministering and some would kill Him. God knew this was the only way to heal humanity from the curse of depravity.

Jesus died on His own cross. He saved His own world. He redeemed His own Beloved. He does His own stunts.

Jesus rose to life all by Himself. Jesus ascended to Heaven all by Himself. Jesus is coming back on His own horse to save us. Jesus does His own stunts.

Jesus does not need anyone to step in and be His advocate. He is His own advocate.

Jesus does not need anyone to step in and be His Savior. He is the Savior.

Jesus does not need anyone to step in and heal His wounds. He heals His own wounds.

But there is one thing God wants from us that He desires with all His heart…

Jesus does need our love and asks for our love…

“Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.” Matthew 22:37

Jesus does not want to spend eternity without your love. Could He exist without it? Sure He could. He is God. But He does not want to. He does not intend to. And thankfully, He will not have to. Because so many have already chosen to make Jesus their lover. Will you be His lover too? He wants to be your lover, like it is just you and Him.

Jesus wants your love.

Be God’s lover.

Jesus is the God the universe needs.

Jesus will do every stunt to win your love.

“The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, and His kingdom rules over all.”

Psalm 103:19
