The Tundra Rose

The conditions were harsh. Hazardous snowfall swirled skewing the depth perception all around as the sky glowed, shimmering peachy pink like a Valentine rose dipped in glitter. Clusters of confetti white and silver trickle down.  Arraying the atmosphere with cosmic art.

Blizzards roar in the winter. Resurface in the winter. Erupt in the winter when the temperature and dewpoint converge just right. Then the elements of water and air freeze in flight, landing on the chilled earth’s crust waiting for the burst of sunlight to touch down and breathe heat into the surroundings. Until then the winter snow glistens.

She thrives in it. Excels in it. Climbs higher in it when the weather condenses to a freezing point… The Tundra Rose.

Unfavorable conditions enhance its most captivating form. Yellow heart shaped petals. Blooming vigorously in the frozen liquid no matter the condition. In the wintry snow, the tundra rose’s roots spiral deep into the soil plundering minerals for enrichment.  Like a prima ballerina, she pirouettes beautifully. Dances passionately. With her faithful snow companion she dances a plier and glisser in a ballet’s pas de deux. Let the snow fall, she says. I’ll show you my most beautiful hues.

God designed the Tundra Rose to thrive in the freezing climate. To radiate in a vibrant display of foliage complementing the pure snowfall.

He designed you also… to thrive no matter the conditions.

Achieve the impossible. There are no excuses for a child of God not to soar. You are more than the elements. You defy the elements. Defy the odds. Defy the expectations. Step into the promised Land. Step into your purpose. Awaken your dreams. Don’t fear the conditions that may find you there.

Miracles generate in unfavorable conditions.

God makes wonder in unfavorable conditions.

Neither snow, nor sleet, nor rain, nor hurricanes keep God from reigning as King.

He shows up every day. Every second. In every aspect, He is perfect. So He imparts perfection into everything He touches.

In Luke chapter 5, Jesus perfects a man’s skin when He touches him. The unfavorable condition erases on the spot.

“And it happened when He was in a certain city, that behold, a man who was full of leprosy saw Jesus; and he fell on his face and implored Him, saying, “If you are willing You can make me clean.”

Luke 5:12

“You can,” the man says… “if you are willing.”

Does Jesus have any conditions when it come to healing? Any rules that the man must follow first in order to be restored? I don’t see any. There are no conditions with Jesus. No conditions to be touched and healed by him. The man knew this from somewhere deep within his soul. He knew Jesus possessed power without any conditions. Without any limits. Without any caveats. This is the Messiah. He knows HE can heal my body.

Jesus proves his faith true.

“Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately the leprosy left him.”

Luke 5:13

Notice that Jesus touches the man before the leprosy is cleansed. In order for Jesus to heal the man, He has to touch the man’s chafed skin and bleeding wounds of leprosy. Touching someone diseased is a dangerous act. Causing potential contagions to go into your own body. But Jesus does not seem to be concerned. He says “I am willing.”

Jesus is willing to touch you. No matter the conditions.

When you are perfect, you can touch anything healthy or non-healthy because nothing can penetrate you. Nothing can contaminate you. God is perfect. Whole. Pure. And no matter what He touches, He will not be corrupted. Rather, the contaminant itself has to go.

Jesus heals everything He touches.

Everything He touches absorbs His holiness and aligns to that.

He touched you… the moment you came to Him. The moment you became a precious treasure of the Most High. You are perfectly held in His hands. In endless love.

But you have a condition. Did you know that?

A condition of loyalty presented to you from the King of kings who wants you to choose Him back in love.

The condition is this: you have to love Him more.

It’s a favorable condition.

A delightful condition.

An enjoyable condition.

A worthy condition.

To be asked to love Him… again and again.

God only sets conditions that satisfy you. His love satisfies you… so He commands you to give it, so you can receive it.

“Whoever has My commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I too will love them and show Myself to them.” John 14:21

Love Me… God says.

That’s the one condition. Everything else He requires holds together in that one order.

Will you love Me more than the others? God asks you… Will you return My love with undivided focus on Me only?

God wants your attention. Not the crowd’s attention.

After Jesus heals the man, he asks the man not to tell anyone about this.

“And Jesus charged him to tell no one, “But go and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your cleasning as a testimony to them, just as Moses commanded.” However, the report went around concerning Him all the more…”

Luke 5:14-15a

Why did he break Jesus’ commandment to not tell?

The passage does not clarify who discovered Jesus as the healer of the man’s leprosy or if the man himself spilled the secret. But it does make it clear Jesus wanted this to stay quiet. He doesn’t heal and tell. He heals to heal. To love. To regenerate. To minister. He knew that when the word got out about His power, He would attract even more opposition from the religious leaders and He still had 2 years left to minister before He would go to the cross. Every healing only stirred up more appeal and chatter about Him as the Messiah. And He needed to keep touching people before time ran out. So Jesus would often have to retreat and spend time alone.

“So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.”

Luke 5:16

Prayer anchored Jesus life on earth.

He sought to talk to God the Father one on one.

In this passage, my Bible has the word “often” italicized. That means he had to do this a lot. Probably because He was healing a lot. Everytime His power oozed out, He would have to go find a place of solitude away from the crowd to not be seen so that He would be able to continue healing the next day without getting into scuffles with the chief priests and pharisees. They sought to test Him and scheme for His death, which will eventually take place by the end of the gospels. But Jesus finds a way to keep ministering for as long as he can without enciting the crucifixion too early because there are more people to reach. So He withdraws to the wilderness.

It also says “Himself” in the passage. Thus, Jesus would go into the wilderness by Himself without anyone with Him. He needed this time to recharge and talk to the Father. His work was not easy, and thus He needed extra energy and power every single day. He is still both 100% divine and 100% God but the humanity part of Him neccessitates this.

His time alone in the wilderness only amplifies His spiritual energy and power, being able to hear from God solely focused on Him.

These are unfavorable conditions for Jesus. Everyone is discovering Him and everyone is flocking to Him, which draws adversity and collisions but it sharpens His focus on where to go and what to teach, making the most of His time.

You are most powerful when the conditions around you seem unfavorable. That’s when God steps in to spark a miracle. Creating the impossible.

Coral reef grows strong thousands of leagues under the sea with no air to breathe. Polar bears thrive and deep dive in the sunlight hovering over the Arctic’s tundra. Water floods sculpt canyons of grandeur once the rain is mastered. Blazing volcanoes fashion craters of beauty after the magma has hardened. Unfavorable conditions unveil miracles  of art the world likes to behold.

God, You are the most brilliant artist of all. Innovative. Endlessly creative. Dedicated and faithful.

No condition keeps God from running the universe.

“As for God, His way is blameless; The word of the LORD is refined; He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.” Psalm 18:30

God Himself possesses no unfavorable conditions. There is nothing wrong with Him that will impede you from loving Him.

What is holding you back from falling in love with the most perfect being in the universe?

God is everything you are looking for.

His love has no conditions but to love Him.

“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.”

Titus 3:4-5
