We read Your words and You tell us what You need us to hear. We read Your words and You tell us what You need us to see in the Spirit indwelling every verse that You wrote. God’s heart for us awakens from the Throne Room where He says… I love you.
“From childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you wisdom that leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”
2 Timothy 3:15
Your writings are sacred. Divinely inspired. Melodiously engendered. Penned through human hands and given to human hearts who need a touch from God.
“But the Word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God.” 1 Kings 12:22
Truth comes to you from the Lord.
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6
If you want to get to the Father, go through Jesus first. He knows the truth. Pour out your heart. Then greet him with love.
He loves the truth.
Jesus loved the truth because He is the truth.
“For the Law was given through Moses but grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.” John 1:17
Truth sparks when Jesus is involved in your life.
Anything outside of the truth separates us from getting to be with Him. He doesn’t want to be away from us, so He rids out the lies that keep us apart. Truth is meant to build stronger connections. You need to be truthful with one another in any relationship to have authentic communication and interaction. Jesus Himself is the foundation of truth. The cornerstone. I want to include Him in every decision and every action because He will show us what is right and true.
Truth. There is only one version of truth and it’s not the KJV. Nor the ESV. Nor the NIV. It’s the one God said. Before we ever penned it with human hands. But He let us translate it with human minds. To share what we think about it with human thoughts. For He wants us to hold it in our human arms enchanted and enthralled by Him. It’s a sacred treasure. Every word He wrote for us.
The Word of God is truth.
Incorruptable. Nothing destroys it.
Pure from God. Nothing taints it.
God-breathed.
Divinely inspired.
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16
Exalt the Word of God as your authority. His word are truth. It opens up the doorways to supernatural insight, wisdom, connection and devotion to the Lord who desires to know you and speak to you through His word.
You grow in intimacy with God as you read.
You understand how to distinguish truth when You know His Word.
“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints from marrow; it is able to reveal the desires and thoughts of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
The Bible is your gauge system helping you to understand the world around you. Filtering good from evil. Sifting spirits. Receiving advice when you need it. The Bible will speak to you directly in such a way it connects to what you are going through in life if you let it. Learn to cherish it and it will come alive so much more. Read it and God will speak to you in relevance and pertinence to the everyday goings-on of life.
“And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book.” Revelation 22:19
Have no fear… Nothing can be added to the Bible now because it has already been canonized as 66 books under the sovereign hand of the Lord. The Bible is perfect in its composition, its essence, its words, its power, its supernatural capacity for speaking to you.
“Then He told me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this scroll, because the time is near.” Revelation 22:10
Truth needs to be read aloud. It’s too beautiful to be hidden or stored away. Keep it close to you. Savor the writings of the Lord. God also wants you to store these words in your heart. Memorize scripture. Get to know your Bible. Know where scripture is and you will be able to find pertinent verses for you everyday needs.
I’m reminded of Pilot who made the infamous comment, “What is truth?” in John 18:38, when overseeing the trial of Jesus that took Him to the cross. Pilot was a Roman official and not an Israelite. Not a Jesus follower. Thus, he did not read the Old Testament, Torah, nor did he follow the Jewish traditions. He did not know about Jesus until this moment. But something makes him unwilling to condem Jesus.
Matthew chapter 27 shows us this scene further.
“Now when Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this Man’s blood; you yourselves shall see.” Matthew 27:24
Pilot said he did not know the truth, but he knows him. Chained and brimming with a thorny crown, he sees the Truth right in front of his eyes. Much more than Jesus’ own people here in this moment. Pilot does not want to condemn him and he defers responsibility from having to carry out any kind of punishment. It’s interesting that Jesus is the one who is innocent here but Pilot refers to himself as “innocent,” He says. “I am innocent of this Man’s blood” Pilot says.
All the sudden, the one in charge now feels vulnerable to Jesus’ power, because He knows who He is. When you recognize Jesus is the Messiah, you stop condemning Him. You give your life to Him. You believe in Him. You become innocent too. Through the propitiation of Jesus’ sacrifice.
Believing in Jesus Christ purifies you. So Pilot washes his hands and goes freely. The verse does not specify that Pilot believes but we see by his actions that He knows who Jesus is. He says in John 18 again, “I find no basis for a charge against him.” Nobody wants to pick a fight with God. That’s why it’s so important to understand who God is. And thus, see who you are. You are indestructable with the Spirit of God in you.
You walk freely because of seeing and recognizing in your heart that Jesus is the King.
You are cleansed because of the Lord who love you.
His truth shows you what truth is. Your eyes open to see differently, from the encounter. Now Pilot walks away seeing the truth that he had never seen before, and he will never be the same again.
The Bible is your daily reading. Daily nourishment. Daily delight. Don’t neglect its need for you to read it. Don’t let your version of the Biblical text be the mandate by which someone else reads the Bible.
There are many translations of the text, but in the end there is only one version of truth. God knows what He said. If He trusted us to write down his words in thousands of different languages then we can trust Him and each other in giving freedom to one another to think in our own ways. I don’t follow what someone else says about the scripture. I read it and then I go to God myself, to let the Holy Spirit talk to me. Sure, we can glean from one another and will. But you cannot skip that personal one-on-one time of you and God reading the Bible together and listening to His voice speak to you. He has something to tell you when you read His words. Prioritize that time.
Get your hands on it. God’s writings. God’s books.
“So I am legally informing you: Acquire it before those sitting here and before the leaders of my people! If you want to exercise your right to redeem it, then do so. But if not, then tell me so I will know. For you possess the first option to redeem it; I am next in line after you.” He replied, “I will redeem it.”
Ruth 4:4
Go get the book before someone else does. You don’t want to miss out on the last copy on the shelf and have to wait for a new one to print. It’s too good to wait another day. I want the first print, the pre-released print, the manuscript print, the blood and sweat-stained print. Your words are mezmerizing to me…
I love Your Word, God. Because you chose to woo us to Your heart through Your book.
I fall more in love with the King on high because He gave me His words to read. Keep writing, speaking, ministering, loving, leading… God is with you and His truth is in you. Act upon His truth, and see God bless you in ways beyond what you can imagine.
I’m writing you a story
and it tells about our love
Heaven’s breath
ocean depths
starry nights
sunlight fire
at sunrise and sunset
this story will be one you won’t forget
