Build on The Rock

Precious gems and treasured stone. Silver and gold adorn His throne. Every dwelling place of God shines beautiful with majesty. Every foundation He builds upon lasts forever. Jesus’ foundations are indestructible. For He upholds the construction by His own being. He is the cornerstone. You need Jesus as your foundation more than every other substance. He is the rock we stand upon. He is the rock we build upon. Build upon the rock.

“Therefore, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: “Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem, a firm and tested stone. It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Whoever believes need never be shaken.” Isaiah 28:16

God’s values are the tools you need to build the house. Your spiritual house. Your spiritual life. Your spiritual identity.

You are never shaken when God is in charge of the construction project.

Believe in Him and let Him build what He envisions for you.

Build upon everything Jesus stands for and you will stand forever.

In Matthew 7, Jesus emphasizes the importance of building our lives upon Him. He teaches this principle thorugh a parable about building a house on rock instead of sand.

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.” Matthew 7:24-25

The Greek word for “house” in this passage is “oikia” which means house, property, dwelling, or family. Jesus speaks about a literal house in which a person inhabits because he wants your physical dwelling place to be founded upon Jesus. When you live founded upon Jesus, it affects your whole house. God wants your house to honor the Lord and His Holy Spirit. He wants your house to revolve around Him. Live to follow Jesus and you build your house upon the rock. You set an environment that welcome Him into your space.

“Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” John 14:23

Love Jesus’ teachings.

Listen to His words, just as He implores us to do in Matthew 7.

Build your construction on the rock and it will not fall. Even when winds and devestation come, your house remains unharmed. When you trust in the Lord, difficulties will arise but you will not be destroyed. God preserves His Beloved. God protects you. God anchors you. God makes you stand firm so that the storm only makes you stronger.

How do you ensure your house does not fall in the storm? Obey God’s words.

Verse 25 says, the house was “founded on the rock.”

What does it means to be founded on the rock?

Found your whole life upon Jesus and every principle that comes from Him, because these are the principles of eternal life and joy.

God is the only indestructible foundation.

“Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD God is an everlasting rock.” Isaiah 26:4

Be founded upon Jesus Christ, your firm and indestructible foundation.

Jesus commands two actions in this passage as the pathway for building a solid construction: hear and do. Jesus says the one who “hears” and “does” what He says will flourish. We must go beyond the hearing and put the commands into practice, so that we benefit from the instructions.

James 1:22 says, “Be a doer of the word, not just a hearer, deceiving yourselves.” What you do reveals what you know. Get to know the Lord better and better. Then, your actions will rise up with boldness as you know what He requires of you and empowers you for. God will give you the ability to do what He says.

When we do what Jesus says, we build things that last forever.

“Therefore, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: “Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem, a firm and tested stone. It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Whoever believes need never be shaken.” Isaiah 28:16

Foundations that are not Jesus are dangerous to build on.

The foundation of the Lord, Jesus Christ, the precious cornerstone, make your construction perfect to build on. Build your life on Him. Build your family on Him. Build your marriage on Him. Build your goals on Him. Build your future on Him. Build your hope on Him. Build everything on Jesus and worry evaporates. You don’t have to worry when God is the one holding you up. Verse 16 says, “whoever believes need never be shaken.” You don’t have to be shaken when you believe in Jesus.

Place your trust in Jesus. Rely on your belief in Him. Live from your belief in Him. Let your faith in Jesus be the center of everything you do.

“Having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:20-22

Jesus is the cornerstone.

We are built together into the dwelling place of God because of Jesus as the cornestone, the one who gives a strong foundation to build upon. He holds everything together as Colossians 1:17 says.

The one who believes in Jesus benefits from the value of Jesus as their cornerstone.

“This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, “The stone which the builders rejected, This became the very corner stone,” and, “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense”; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed.” 1 Peter 2:7-8

The ones who rejected Jesus on earth because they thought they did not need Him will soon find out that He is the only One we need. Jesus is the most important part of the construction. Of the building. Of the foundation. Of the universe. Jesus is the cornerstone, and even if the “builders rejected” Him, (the Jews who killed Him), because of their disobedience, Jesus reigns supreme anyways. Why were they disobedient? Peter says in verse 8 that they do not read the Word. When you don’t read the Bible and do not follow the Bible, it leads to “doom” Peter says. Reading the Bible profits you. Reading the Bible empowers you to build on an indestructible foundation, which is Jesus Christ, the strongest One.

Jesus goes on to tell about the consequences of not listening to His words in Matthew 7.

“And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” Matthew 7:26-27

Jesus wants your house to flourish.

Jesus wants your house to survive the winds and rains and floods.

Jesus wants you to stand indestructible.

build Me on your Word

and I’m perfect

indestructible

build Me on Your Word

for it’s worth it

incomparable

Only the ones who are willing to listen and do what Jesus says will experience the benefits of indestructibility.

If we don’t listen to Jesus’ words, the house will fall and be swept away. This is not Jesus’ fault, but rather the fault of the one who neglected to yield to His advice. Jesus clearly tells us what is required for success when it comes to our dwellings on earth.

Build upon everything Jesus stands for and you will stand forever.

What you are building on?
