Expect God

Gravity on earth and land and sea. Supernovas igniting celestial beams. Waterfalls of roaring, liquid fusion. Jesus’ wonders forever before us are proven. God can do anything. He can make anything. He can breathe anything into existence. Expect God do to big things.

In Matthew 14, Jesus demonstrated His power to do the impossible and go above and beyond.

“Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.” Matthew 14:25

Jesus went above and beyond the sea. Even on earth as a man, Jesus, fully God and fully man, possessed superhuman powers. Walking on water was no problem for Jesus because the waters rest under the command of His love and authority. He spoke to the waters in the beginning when He orchestrated the unfolding of creation’s genesis.

“And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters He called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.” Genesis 1:9-10

God can do anything with water because His hands hold every substance in His sovereignty.

Jesus created the water because He was there in the beginning just as John 1:1-3 indicates.

“Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.” John 1:3

Jesus’ power is unlimited and His vision exceeds beyond the visible world, so that He creates His creation from scratch. God is the designer of creation’s breath-taking wonders. He can create captivating miracles in your life too.

Raise your expectations of what God can do.

Expect Him to be God so He can have room in your life to execute the unimaginable in your life.

“When the disciples saw Him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to You on the water.” “Come,” He said.” Matthew 14:26-29

Jesus’ supernatural power gives you supernatural power also, when you trust in Him.

Jesus goes above and beyond to cover our sins so we can be redeemed. He is worthy to open the scroll and the seals of the end of days.

“And they sang a new song with these words: “You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals and open it. For you were slaughtered, and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.” Revelation 5:9

Jesus’ blood goes above and beyond every other bloodshed. His bloodshed atones for the sins of the entire human race from beginning to end. Salvation is found in no other name but Jesus.

Supernatural power comes from Jesus imparting that into you from your faith in Him.

In the story of Matthew 14 where Peter walks on the water, we see Peter’s power to do what Jesus does working from His connection and trust in Jesus. Peter wanted Jesus to tell Him He could walk on the water and He needed to hear Jesus say it first. Once Jesus says, “Come,” Peter steps out of the boat and discovers that God’s commands empower Him like He has never seen before.

God loves is when you let Him be God for you.

He wants relationship with you and this entails you understanding who He is. God deserves honor and glory for being God.

“For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name.” Luke 1:49

King Solomon also witnessed God doing big things for Him, going above and beyond all He had asked. We read about this in 1 Kings 3 when God appears to Solomon.

“Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of David his father, only he sacrificed and made offerings at the high places.” 1 Kings 3:3

Solomon made big sacrifices to God because He knew God was the God of the whole universe. The God of Heaven and Earth. The God who deserves all glory. Solomon also knew something about God that would benefit Him when God appeared to him one night: God does big things.

God delivers according to your expectation of His power. Then, He exceeds your wildest dreams because He has more resources than you can envision.

In 1 Kings 3, God appears to King Solomon and asks him to tell Him what he desires.

“At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, “Ask what I shall give you.” 1 Kings 3:5

God wants to speak to you and ask you what you truly desire. He wants to take care of you and dote on you because He adores you and how you love Him. Expect God to love you like the generous God He is. Expect God to provide what you need because He placed you where you are in the first place.

God does not just receive love from us… He also generously lavishes us with love.

“Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?” 1 Kings 3:9

In all Solomon could have asked for, he requests wisdom so that he would be able to lead his people well. He expects God’s best.

King Solomon expects God to do a grant Him a monumental request because He knows God’s love for Him propels Him to do big things for Him, just as God did big things for his father David. Solomon also He also knows this is a request aligned with God’s heart, since this request will benefit the people of Israel whom he leads.

God loves when we ask for what delights His heart.

“It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this.” 1 Kings 3:10

The desire for wisdom pleases the Lord because it shows Solomon takes his role as King seriously and cares about hearing’s God truth for the best practices on leading this people according to God’s heart. God leads His people intentionally.

Expect God to do big things when you ask what pleases Him.

“And God said to him, “Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right, behold, I now do according to your word. Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you. I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that no other king shall compare with you, all your days.” 1 Kings 3:11-13

When you ask for wisdom, God delivers.

Solomon received what He asked for because He knew God could give him what He asked for.

Not only does God give him wisdom for leading Israel but He gives him wisdom surpassing every other of his time. I want God to grant me wisdom for the rest of my days and I want you to also desire this gift, because it will serve you well in every single area of your life.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” James 1:5

Did you know God can give you wisdom? He can. If you value wisdom, then you can ask for it. Solomon asked for wisdom because this was his top priority in resources he needed. We must evaluate what we value so that we can ask for what we truly need and be given richly from the overflow of God’s resources that which we ask for.

Expect God to lavish you above and beyond what you ask for.

Expect God to be powerful enough to do anything.

Solomon asked God for wisdom with an real, transparent heart which is also why God provided in such a big way, going above and beyond all He asked. God said… “I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honor” in verse 13.

God does the unimaginable in your life when you seek to fulfill your purpose for Him.

Reigning as King over Israel was Solomon’s purpose at this time, and his request itself reveals the purity of his heart in wanting to honor that position and lead with excellence.

King Solomon could ask God for wisdom because He knew God Himself was, is and always will be wise. Thus, God would have wisdom to give him. Wisdom he needed for the leadership role before him.

Years later, Solomon would go on to write about the benefits of wisdom in the book of the Proverbs…

“Blessed is the one who finds wisdom,
and the one who gets understanding,
14 for the gain from her is better than gain from silver
and her profit better than gold.
15 She is more precious than jewels,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.
16 Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her;
those who hold her fast are called blessed.” Proverbs 3:13-18

God’s wisdom blesses your life in every way.

Peter and Solomon were just humans, but they saw how God’s power made them stronger and wiser than they could have ever been on their own. They are not the only ones who witnessed the power of God in their lives. We all witness this power of the Lord in our lives from our relationship with Jesus as our Lord and Savior and can step into greater interactions with God as we let Him be our one love.

Let Him be God and get to know the Lord who loves you. He will go above and beyond everything you can imagine because He loves you that much!

Jesus’ love completes us on the inside.

Jesus’ love completes our story.

God has a track-record of miraculous wonders.

Your expectation for God to move draws Him in closer.

God always goes above and beyond for His people. He creates everything with zeal and passion. He fashions the best outcomes and the most satisfying destinies for us, because we are destined to live with Him forever in Heaven.
